Mired in controversy
More than four decades after it was set up as a spiritual and social organization, the Dera Sacha Sauda has been in the news more for controversies than for its voluntary activities.
Set up in Sirsa in 1948 by Beparwah Shah Mastana Balochistani, the Dera Sacha Sauda claims it has over two crore members in India and abroad.
Most of its members are from economically backward communities, including Dalit Sikhs.
The Sacha Sauda recognises one universal god and respects all religions and while it is involved in voluntary social work, it shuns donations in any form.
Their leader Ram Rahim has become a controversial figure with his colourful costumes. His attire imitating Guru Gobind Singh has landed him in trouble.
But the sect faces more serious charges in connection with the murder of a journalist who had exposed sexual exploitation of women Dera followers.

the murder of a local journalist was the result of the passionate intolerance of a hardliner follower of DSS .The journalist was writing so many baseless disgraceful things about Guruji.The allegations of sexual exploitation are used as a very effective tool to defame DSS and Guruji by those mischivious elements whose wide interests are being affected by Dera’s teachings and activities.See,TRUTH WILL LIVE LAST .MAY TRUTH LIVE LONG.

Khatta Singh revealed that Ranjit Singh, brother of a dera sadhavi who was repeatedly raped by dera chief, was killed because her sister told him about her sexual molestation after which Ranjit started to avoid dera. watch video
Dera members also suspected his hand behind the inflammatory anonymous letter supposedly written by a dera sadhavi to the Prime Minister in December 2002, following this Punjab and Haryana High Court instructed CBI to carry out further investigations. Khatta Singh also revealed that Ranjit had spoken about a threat to his life and a month before he was killed; he was called to the dera to apologise.
Reacting to the India TV-Tehelka sting operation SGPC Chief Avtaar Singh Makkar said that Gurmeet Ram Raheem singh should be severely punished as he has hurt religious sentiments of the Sikhs and is a Criminal.
SGPC leader Manjit Singh Calcutta thanked India TV and Tehelka for the operation and asked government to take strict action against dera chief.
While Patna Sahib’s Chief Jatthedar Gyani Iqbal Singh said that Ram Raheem Singh is associated with anti-national agencies and took over as dera chief from Satnam Singh at gun point. He also asked Central and Haryana government to take quick action and put him behind bars.
Meanwhile, top sources in the CBI confirmed that three sadhvis of the dera have now gone on record before them alleging rape against the dera head Gurmeet Ram Rahim.
